Fastest Boy in the World, The In this chapter book with occasional black and white illustration, Solomon, an eleven year old Ethiopian boy, dreams of becoming a gold-medal winning athlete like the great runners he hero-worships and whose victory parade he hopes to witness when he accompanies his grandfather on a long walk to the capital, Addis Ababa. But Solomon learns about a different kind of heroism as he discovers surprising information about his own grandfather's past and is himself put to the test after an emergency arises when his grandfather collapses and he alone can summon help - by running the 20 miles back to their village. Told in the first person, Solomon's story is a fast-paced and exciting read; he is a likeable character, his hopes and dilemmas portrayed against the colourful chaos of a modern African country's crowded capital as seen through the eyes of a village boy and first time visitor.
