Paper-Flower Tree, The In this tale from Thailand, a young girl is enchanted by the sight of a paper-flower tree brought to her village by an old peddler. He makes her a gift of a flower containing a small black bead, and urges her to plant this 'seed' as it might grow into her very own tree. She follows his instructions and remains steadfast in hope even though the months and seasons pass and she is increasingly teased for wasting her time. The lovely illustrations combine line drawings and blocks of colour and have the freshness and immediacy of direct observation, informed by the many sketches the author made when travelling in the country.
