Rocket is a huge fan of Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman in space, and dreams of becoming an astronaut like her. Her favourite outfit, naturally, is a space suit teamed with a jet pack rucksack. She wants to share her passion for space with everyone, but particularly her ultra-cool brother Jamal who is forever peering down at the screen of his phone. Rocket wants to persuade other people to look skywards, too, and makes fliers to publicise a spectacular meteor shower that will be visible that night and hopes to get Jamal to take her to a good viewing point in the local park. The cartoon-style illustrations set up many comic contrasts between the self-obsessions of her brother glued to his phone and Rocket's own single track obsession for all things to do with space.
