This simple chapter book with many illustrations gives a humorous picture of family life in present-day Africa. Anna Hibiscus is a lively young girl who lives with her Canadian mother and African father and his extended family. Three stories describe a family holiday, a visit from an Aunty living in America, and Anna's invitation to visit Canada to see snow for the first time. There is a humorous interplay of traditional and modern: emails and text messages whizz between countries and even between family members out shopping in the local market, whilst great store is also set by traditional customs and manners.
