Walter Tull's Scrapbook The inspiring life story of Walter Tull - Britain's first professional black footballer and first black Army officer - is given fictionalised format in this first person narrative and scrapbook. Factually accurate, the text is interspersed with archive photographs, quotations, documents and records. It describes his early life and rise to fame as a professional footballer and gives an account of some of his encounters with prejudice and discrimination. With the outbreak of the First World War he volunteers as a soldier, later to win a ground-breaking promotion to the rank of officer and engaging in acts of courage which led to his being recommended for the military cross - an honour never awarded since he died shortly afterwards on a battlefield in northern France, aged just 29.
