Twenty-Two Cents: Muhammad Yunus and the Village Bank This picture book biography of Muhammad Yunus, Bangladeshi professor of economics and recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize, tells the story of his quest to help people escape a cruel system that trapped them in a cycle of poverty. After conventional banks turned down his ideas for micro-loans at low interest rates to assist the poorest villagers - particularly women - whose lives were blighted by moneylenders, he was inspired to found his own bank. The Grameen Bank, as it became known, began to have a real impact on standards of living and its influence extended to other countries gradually establishing a world wide presence.
