This touching picture book describes how a young refugee, Sangoel, leaves his homeland in the Sudan where his father has died in the war, with little but his Dinka name as a reminder of a proud heritage. Offered resettlement in the USA, everything about his new country is bewildering. Sangoel is able to help his mother and sister to some degree with the simple English he learned in the refugee camp, but it hurts him that no-one can pronounce his name and it is only when he comes up with a clever solution to this problem that he begins to feel at home.
