Set in the Appalachian Mountains area of America amongst trappers and poor farmers, this comic variant of the Cinderella story uses the dialect of the Mid-West to tell how Rose, with the help of a magical hog, thwarts the plans of her step-sisters to prevent her attending the fancy barn dance of 'this real rich feller', Seb. The illustration matches the tone of the story with many humourous exaggerations and distorted perspectives.
