The Year 5 children of a North London school - Chalkhill Primary - were closely involved in the shaping and production of this book. The list of first names suggests the diversity of backgrounds pictured in the story itself which follows a class of younger children as they prepare for and go on a visit to a City Farm. After a walk through their busy neighbourhood and a journey on the Underground they arrive at the farm in eager anticipation. The chance to see animals at close quarters is an exciting one for city children, especially as they are allowed to pet and hold some of them. The simple story includes some rhyming sections - with a rapping beat - in bold text whilst Karin Littlewood's naturalistic illustrations reflect the many different backgrounds of the children and staff of the aptly named 'Rainbow Class'.
