This picture book tells the story of Amadi, a young Igbo boy, who doesn't understand why his mother insists that he learn to read. He would rather wander around the market learning to be a businessman. But the sight of an older youth immersed in a book at one of the stalls catches his eye and Amadi is soon intrigued by a picture on the open page of a strange white creature: a snowman, he is told. The boy is astounded by his friend's ability to explain the mystery of snow just because he was able to read. Thoughts of this unfamiliar world beyond Nigeria, opened up by the power of books, start to whirl around in his mind, and before long, he is determined to seize every opportunity to learn this exciting new skill.
