Hamzat's Journey Hamzat, a Chechnyen boy living in Grozny during the time of his country's war with Russia, is walking to school one day when he steps on a landmine and loses his right foot. So begins a long journey to seek the best medical treatment. His story, told in his own words in diary format, describes how the search for expert rehabilitation leads eventually to a new life in England where his family successfully apply for asylum. The text - illustrated with a combination of photographs and colour illustration - gives a poignant account of the often harrowing circumstances that lead people to flee their native country in search of a place of safety.
