Home for Chinese New Year Jiajun is impatient for his father to arrive home for the New Year celebrations. His father works far away on a construction site in a city, and must undertake a long journey, by train, bus, three-wheeled motorcycle and ferry, with a long walk at the end. Will he make it home in time for the New Year's celebration? Will he manage to keep safe the watch he is bringing as a present for Juijun? Of course, and together father and son enjoy all the festive activities which culminate in making a rabbit lantern for the final day of the celebrationl. The lovely watercolour illustrations convey the hazards of his journey and the tension of wanting to arrive in time as well as the hardships of many Chinese workers and the difficulties of having to leave loved ones to work in remote parts. The English text has a Mandarin translation below. An afterword gives more information about Chinese New Year..
