This retelling of the Cinderella story combines elements from several Korean variants: a beautiful young girl, Pear Blossom, is helped by a succession of magical creatures to accomplish the tasks which allow her to triumph over her stepmother's cruelty and escape from her tormented existence. Ruth Heller's illustrations incorporate many significant cultural details which are explained in an afterword.
