A deeply moving story of a little girl in a refugee camp in Thailand; under the tutelage of her grandmother, Mai learns to stitch her own family history into a traditional pa'ndau, and helps to give a shape to her aspirations to be free. There is great poignancy in the contrast between deceptively simple text, the folk art style of the embroidered scenes and the terrors they record.
